Alice In Wonderland Psychedelic Poster

$18.00Price
  • In the gritty confines of 1980s New York City, Alice, a 15-year-old with an unyielding spirit, stumbles upon a hidden, enigmatic world, providing a stark and peculiar contrast to her suffocating above-ground life. Her discovery of "The Wonderland," an underground club, comes about through the pulsating beats seeping through an ostensibly abandoned subway station, leading her down into a wild, anarchic world illuminated by neon lights and inhabited by bizarre, whimsical characters. While her real world is grimy and unrelenting, The Wonderland, despite its vibrant chaos and apparent freedom, offers its own unique blend of escapism and tyranny, reflecting back at Alice a different kind of disorder and rebellion.

Navigating through this underground counterculture, Alice encounters characters reminiscent of those in the classic tale, each embodying aspects of her psyche and fragments of society. The Cheshire Cat, a mischievous graffiti artist; The Mad Hatter, a punk rock musician and anti-establishment figure; and The Queen of Hearts, a fallen actress wielding power in a desperate attempt to hold onto a facade of control and youth, each guide and misguide Alice through a symbolic journey of self-discovery. Despite the electrifying escape that The Wonderland appears to offer, Alice grapples with its inherent chaos and realizes that true freedom cannot be achieved through mere escapism but must be actively forged in the crucible of reality.

Alice returns to her above-ground world not with a defeated spirit but with a rebellious one, blending the chaotic freedom of The Wonderland with a resolve to navigate her real-world struggles. Utilizing art and music as tools for self-expression and societal commentary, she becomes an advocate for change, navigating her way through the complexities of adolescence and adulthood. The urbanized Alice in Wonderland becomes a metaphor for the turbulent journey from youth to adulthood, challenging norms, confronting societal chaos, and eventually finding one’s own voice amidst the surrounding cacophony, thereby establishing a balanced existence that authentically represents her true self.
